History
Soviet collapse and the Siberian war (1945-1950)
After the collapse of the Soviet Union during the Second Russian Civil War, the area of Buryatia found itself under the rule of Genrikh Yagoda and the NKVD of Irkutsk. The nation found itself relatively stable until the start of the Siberian War in 1950. Within a few days of the start of the conflict, several local authorities revolted against Yagoda's regime. This led to the creation of the states of Magadan, Amur, Chita, Yakutia and Kamchatka.
Sablin's Rebellion (1961)
Valery Sablin became dissilusioned with his duties for Yagoda. Leading a group of loyal soldiers, he took control of a radio tower in the Buryat ASSR, and broadcasted a call to arms against Yagoda's tyrannical rule in Irkutsk. This message ressonated with many people, especially those of the Buryat identity that were being subjected to Russification policies.
