The New Zealand Labour Party is a socialist political party in the country of New Zealand. It is one of two main parties within New Zealand, alongside its rival National. Since losing the 1960 election (which ended the only three-year period during which Labour was in power since World War II), party leader Norman Kirk has adopted a platform of socialist democracy, with a focus on strengthening trade unions and a critical attitude towards 'world policing'.
