Alfredo Stroessner
Alfredo Stroessner is a Paraguayan military officer and politician.
In-Game Biography
With German and Guarani blood, Stroessner is a soldier first and a president second. "El Rubio" enlisted at the age of sixteen, and fought in the Chaco War at nineteen.
In his youth, Stroessner found his endless craving for power, striving to climb as high as he could on the military ladder. He rapidly ascended the ranks, ultimately promoted to general by Morínigo. Stroessner amassed himself a following of loyal military allies, with old friends from the Chaco War and the Condor Legion, and new friends sharing his Germanophilic tendencies. With the help of these allies, Stroessner now finds himself the most powerful man in Paraguay.
As the domineering father of Paraguay, Stroessner promised "peace, work, and wellbeing." In reality, Stroessner has only brought upon the perception of such through his ruthless anti-communist campaigns, putting leftist agitators and mere dissenters alike in the crosshairs. Under the orders of Stroessner, enemies of the state are kidnapped, tortured, and murdered. Often, their gruesome interrogations happen in front of the president himself, or their screams played over the phone for his satisfaction.
Even in the highest office, Stroessner lives ascetically, rumored to not use hot water and refuse anaesthetic during operations. Stroessner fights to keep his image of perfect health and an iron will. This spartan living is a standard only Stroessner holds himself to, as evidenced by the lavish spending of his cronies at the state's expense.
