Biography

Early life

Alexander Pokryshkin was born on March 19, 1913, in the village of Novonikolayevskoye, in what is now Kazakhstan. He came from a peasant family and grew up in a rural setting. His family faced financial challenges, and he had to work various odd jobs to support them.

Despite his humble background, Pokryshkin developed a strong interest in aviation from a young age. He was captivated by stories of aviators and dreamed of becoming a pilot himself.

In the late 1920s, Pokryshkin managed to enroll in a local flying club, where he began his flight training. He showed exceptional aptitude for flying and quickly progressed through the training program.

In 1934, Pokryshkin joined the Soviet Air Force. He completed pilot training and was assigned to various fighter units. Over the years, he demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in improving his flying and combat abilities.

World War II (Great Patriotic War) (1939-1942)

When World War II broke out, Pokryshkin was already an experienced pilot. He saw combat in the early stages of the war, flying a variety of Soviet fighter aircraft. His combat prowess and leadership abilities were quickly recognized.

Post War Years

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Pokryshkin settled in his hometown of Novosibirsk, and the Central Siberian Republic appointed him as the city's governor. Hoping to live out his life in peace, the Siberian War crushed that dream, and motivated Pokryshkin to secede from the Republic with the like-minded mayor of Barnaul, Vasily Shukshin. War and sorrow had dulled Pokryshkin's worldview into one of utter pragmatism, and Pokryshkin is determined to maintain Novosibirsk's stability and sovereignity, no matter the cost, Pokryshkin allied the government with the country's biggest enterprises, giving large promises and concessions to them. Nowadays, almost the entirety of the federation's economy is based around three industrial conglomerates: Feniks, Sibir and Titan.

Politics

Pokryshkin's the face of Novosibirsk's darker path, ruling a bitter and repressive government under his brutal military clique and greedy mega-corporations. However, he's not deliberately causing the citizens' suffering, but instead reluctantly making compromises since he thinks more idealistic inclinations to be ineffectual compared to his status quo, and he only reached this line of thinking after his experiences in war. His Federation is thus a place of almost total pragmatism, and disdains anything better. Though Novosibirsk technically has elections, Pokryshkin's "Silovik" policies have prevented many civilian bureaucrats from running for office and kept himself in power, until he decides to step down. If he remains in power by election, he introduces even tighter limits, like stricter voter ID laws, to cement his authority.

Quote upon unification

"You will be required to do wrong no matter where you go. It is the basic condition of life, to be required to violate your own identity."

—Phillip K. Dick

In-Game Biography

"A legendary ace pilot in the Second World War and a Hero of the Soviet Union, Alexander Ivanovich Pokryshkin would return to his home town of Novosibirsk after the end of the war. Hoping to live a relatively peaceful life, little did he know where fate would lead him. Pokryshkin was content with the rule of the Central Siberian Republic, and eventually found his way into government. Managing the city of Novosibirsk under the Republic was a relatively simple affair. That was, until the Siberian War. Soon, he would be forced to put the entire city on a war footing to face against Yagoda's powerful Supreme Soviet in the east. Rationing was introduced, conscription increased dramatically, and the young men of Novosibirsk were sent to die on the battlefields of Siberia. At one point, Pokryshkin reached his limit. After making a backroom deal with Mayor of Barnaul Vasily Shukshin, the plan was set into motion. The two men and their subordinates would seize Novosibirsk swiftly, organizing a new government. A government free from any influence, and truly sovereign amidst the chaos that unfolded in Russia. Now, ruling through an uneasy alliance with Barnaul, Pokryshkin needs to ensure his state remains stable. Even though it boasts a large population, industry and functional agriculture, Novosibirsk still has problems it needs to face, both internal and external, and it is up to Pokryshkin to solve them."
