The Invasion of Northern Ireland was a combined arms invasion and occupation of Northern Ireland undertaken by the Republic of Ireland, to occupy and annex the dispute territory that had previously been carved from the Irish Free State as part of the 1922 Anglo-Irish Treaty. The invasion, backed by Germany, launched during the early days of Operation Sea Lion, was costly but ultimately successful.
