James Laxer is a Canadian politician and the current leader of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation - The Waffle, a socialist political party in the Dominion of Canada.

• James Laxer was a Canadian politician, economist and historian. He began his political career in 1969 by helping to found the Waffle, a political movement forming the left wing of the New Democratic Party (NDP). However, Laxer's political career was not very successful. In 1971, he failed to become leader of the NDP and then failed to be elected to Parliament in 1974. James Laxer left politics and became a professor of political science at York University in Toronto. He continued to be noted for his advocacy of Canadian economic nationalism. James Laxer died in 2018 during a trip to Paris, France.
