Karl Chmielewski was a German SS officer and former concentration camp commandant of the Herzogenbusch Concentration Camp and the Potiential Leader of Oberkommando Südafrika

Biography

Early Years

Chmielewski joined the Schutzstaffel whilst unemployed in 1932 and joined the Nazi Party the following year. After initially serving in the office of Heinrich Himmler, he was transferred to the Columbia concentration camp in 1935, before moving to Sachsenhausen concentration camp the following year. He was promoted to Untersturmführer in 1938 and attached to the Schutzhaftlagerführung, the 'Protective custody' units of the SS-Totenkopfverbände

World War 2

During World War 2, Chmielewski, by then a Hauptsturmführer, served as Schutzhaftlagerführer at Gusen concentration camp, and it was there that he developed a reputation for extreme brutality. He then became commandant of the newly established Herzogenbusch concentration camp in the Netherlands, where he further developed a reputation for cruelty.

Post-War Years

Shortly after the World War, Chmielewski was reassigned to Reichskommissariat Ostafrika as a minor minister. Completely incompetent at his new job, his many attempts to appease Reichskommissar and later Statthalter Hüttig all ended with failure. As the Second South African Civil War erupts however, Hüttig was forced to dispatch Chmielewski to intervene in the war and put down the Boer rebellion, since all better generals are occupied with Kolonialverwaltung duties.

In-game

During the Second South African Civil War, Hüttig will be forced to dispatch Chmielewski to intervene in the war and put down the Boer rebellion, since all better generals are occupied with Kolonialverwaltung duties.

  • If Chmielewski fails to retake South Africa or the Second South African Civil War is never triggered in the first place by the time Hüttig relocates to Léopoldville, then Otto Förschner will attempt to have him killed during his coup. His attempt fails, however, and Chmielewski will attempt to rally men for a counterattack. Nothing comes of it, however, since the Reichsstaat collapses shortly after.
  • Should he win, South Africa will collapse again, and he will be assassinated by Wilhelm Dommes so he doesn't interfere in Dommes plans to get out of Africa. He deserves it honestly.
  • Seemingly entrusted with dangerous missions by Hüttig, Chmielewski is convinced that he is his boss' favorite amongst his subordinates. Truthfully, his command skills are mediocre at best. Otherwise, Hüttig completely despises him as a psychotic monster, even by his standards, and the reason he gives so many "special tasks" to Chmielewski is to have him killed, since he can't be rid of otherwise.
  • Chmielewski competes with Richard Baer for Hüttig's favor, doing any little thing possible to prove himself worthy in his eyes. Unfortunately for both of them, Hüttig holds them both in contempt and ignores all of their jockeying.
