The Cold War is the period of geopolitical tension between the United States of America, the Greater Germanic Reich, and the Empire of Japan that began following the end of the Second World War. The term cold war is used because there is no large-scale fighting directly between the three superpowers, they do however support regional conflicts and interfere in local national politics across the world to further their own spheres of influence.

The struggle for dominance is expressed via indirect means such as psychological warfare, propaganda campaigns, espionage, far-reaching embargoes, rivalry at sports events, technological competitions such as the Space Race, and the backing of proxy conflicts across the world. The hesitation for direct conflict is a result of the growing stockpiles of nuclear weapons each superpower has access to, ensuring that any direct confrontation between their nations will result in the destruction of human civilization.
