In June of 1958, the Argentinean Navy invaded and seized the disputed western portion of their Antarctic claim, as well as several islands in the Beagle Channel. Despite the Argentinean government officially denying their involvement in the incident, OFN mediators withdrew from negotiations between the two South American countries, leaving Argentina to deal with her ill-gotten gains. The aftermath of the war still lingers today, with Chile constantly looking for a way to reclaim her lost territory, and with tensions remaining between the Instituto Antártico Argentino and the Argentinean Navy.
