Vorkuta, officially the Vorkuta Corrective Labor Camp, is a Russian warlord state in northern Russia. It borders Yugra to the south, the West Russian Revolutionary Front to the west, and the Free Aviators to the east.

History

Vorkuta was home to one of the most infamous Gulags, the Vorkuta Corrective Labor Camp (Vorkutlag). It is operated by Chief Executioner Vasily Blokhin, and has been since the long gone days of the Soviet Union. Vorkuta was home to many political and social dissidents of the Soviet Union, ranging from non-Communists and priests to criminals. Located in the far north of Russia, Vorkuta is a place of solitude and bitter cold weathers. One of the most unbearable places to live on Earth, it only grew to prominence due to the massive abundance of coal for extraction.

The Vorkuta Gulags became home to many figures who would become major influential figures in warlord Russia, such as Janis Mendriks and Jaba Ioseliani. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, chaos and disorder arose amongst the prisoners, who sought to attempt a break out among the collapse. A violent confrontation was on course to break out, before Mendriks intervened to convince the prisoners and guards they had similar goals, and left the Gulag. They would go on to form the Children of Vorkuta military guard, a protective military organization, currently settled in the Southern Urals. The criminal population also took the opportunity to break free of the Gulags and under the leadership of Ioseliani left to make a vast criminal empire of Yugra. Despite their initial success, the Vorkuta remnants did successfully push Yugra back during an exodus of the Vory criminal class.

Blokhin remained loyal to the West Russian Revolutionary Front during the 1950s, providing forced labor and coal for the Front's war machine. However, as the WRRF collapsed in the aftermath of the West Russian War, Blokhin and other loyal members of the NKVD broke off the WRRF and consolidated their rule over Vorkuta. Vorkuta has become little more than a brutal and totalitarian fiefdom under the leadership of Blokhin, using lessons from his days in the Union to execute or imprison anyone who challenges his rule. A despotic and isolationist state, purely existing for Blokhin to exercise power for his ego. Blokhin rules with an iron fist, but as the warlords of Russia move to reunite the motherland, his rule over Vorkuta may finally come to an end.

In-game

Vorkuta is likely to be one of the last, if not the last, state in Western Siberia to be incorporated by whoever unifies the region, due to their position. However, should Zlatoust be the one to "unify" the region, Vorkuta will be left untouched (rather than incorporated into Zlatoust or merged with one of the puppets formed). Conversely, should Onega be the one to "unify" Western Russia, they will depose Vorkuta.

Trivia

  • In earlier versions of the mod, Vorkuta was ruled by Admiral Arseniy Golovko. Due to the lack of sense in the Soviet fleet being trapped in the Arctic Circle, Vorkuta's content was then transferred to another Russian warlord, Kamchatka. Admiral Golovko was subsequently replaced by Admiral Ivan Yumashev, with Vorkuta gaining new content.
