The State of New Granada is an unrecognised state controlled by the Colombian far-right that broke away from the Republic of Colombia, with which it has fought a civil war called La Violencia since 1954.

La Violencia
  • Weekly Manpower.pngManpower: -20

  • Taxable Population: -25.00%
Colombia has found itself in an intermittent state of violence since the assassination of President Gaitán in 1954. Old grudges and hatred between the Conservatives and Liberals led to a climate of brutality that saw both sides committing hideous crimes as Bogotá was razed to the ground in a pogrom. The defection of sectors of the army to the revolted sides and the mounting radicalization of all militants effectively collapsed the authority of the government over large parts of the nation.

A ceasefire to stop the bloodshed has been in place since 1956 and has been enforced thus far. However, the cracks are showing, skirmishes and the growingly precarious food scarcity are building up tensions that threaten to end the peace and throw Colombia into chaos once more..
On the Soldiers of a Giant
  • Daily Political power.pngPolitical Power Gain: +0.50
  • War Support.pngWar Support: +15.00%
Who assassinated Jorge Eliécer Gaitán? That is the question that all Colombians ask themselves, and depending on whom you ask, you will find a different answer. "It was the Church" say the Liberals, "it was the Jews", say the Conservatives. The Japanese, Americans, Iberians, even the Dominicans are blamed for the loss of the beloved caudillo.

Of course, there is a cynical reason behind this. As Gaitán's figure is respected by all, it's used by political actors to invoke legitimacy for their cause and generate hatred against their enemies, who are accused of being the ones responsible for the deed.
Agrarian Crisis
  • Monthly Population: -10.0%
  • Stability.pngStability: -20.00%
The usual problems of the rural Colombian, its poverty, dependency and exploitation by large landowners have not been solved or disappeared by the civil war, on the contrary, they have made a turn for the worse, a situation that appears to not have any proper solutions in sight.

Besides these old problems, a new one is increasingly growing its importance: food insecurity. The killings, repression and the displacement of the rural population puts our food production in jeopardy and threatens the entirety of Colombia with the prospect of hunger and starvation.
Reactionary Den
  • Army Experience Gain: +0.02 daily
  • Division Organization: +10.0%
  • Non-Combat Out of Supply Penalties: -20.0%
For all the talk about the regime of New Granada being against the degeneracy and chaos of the liberal and Marxist order, the truth is that it Alzate Avedaño's project is nothing more than a den of fascists, reactionaries, spies, mercenaries, arms dealers and other outlaws or lowlifes from across the world that have nowhere else to go.

While this has lowered New Granada's political stability to a less than ideal value, it has its benefits. Sustaining and funding the war effort and other activities comes as fairly cheap, and the international connections built by the criminal networks gives the state plenty of opportunities to exploit.
Army of Saints and Sinners
  • Division Organization: -5.0%
  • Division Attack: +7.5%
  • Maximum Command power.pngCommand Power Increase Multiplier: -15%
  • Military Professionalism Monthly Change: -0.05
When building an army to fight for a cause, one could not be enough of a fool to aim for an angelic force that is free from all the earthly temptations that war brings with it, the common case is that men of all calibres and human qualities are sent to the front so as to defend the grand ideals of those who remain behind, however, in Colombia the bar for those admitted to the fight has been set too low, as pillagers, bandits and murderers are abundant among our the lines of every unit. Perhaps when the war ends those who are righteous may find the time to be hailed as saints, but for now their job is to stand side to side with the most terrible sinners this land has ever bred.
